The Detroit Equestrian Club is pleased to announce its grand opening at the Michigan State Fairgrounds in Detroit, Michigan. "It has been a dream of mine for over 4 years to bring horseback riding back to the fairgrounds", says Hunter/Jumper trainer, and DEC owner, Christopher Ewing. "So many people have fond memories of riding there as a kid and now they will be able to re-live that experience with their kids. With gas at over $3.00 a gallon and parents with hectic work schedules, this is a perfect location for families to be able to juggle all of the different activities that kids are a part of these days." The Detroit Equestrian Club offers to its members boarding, riding lessons and more. It also hosts United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) rated horse shows during the winter season.

The Michigan State Fairgrounds
has become a premier family-oriented destination over the years and The Detroit
Equestrian Club is just one of the exciting sports-related businesses located at
the Fairgrounds. Adjacent to The DEC is the Little Caesars AAA Hockey
Arena. The Little Caesars Hockey League has called the Fairgrounds home
for the past 5 years and is one of the most respected organizations in amateur
hockey, recognized as one of the cornerstones of the Midwest Elite Hockey
League. Mike and Marian Ilitch, owners of the Little Caesars Pizza chain,
have been sponsoring amateur hockey teams since 1968 and are a major reason for
the club's success.

Also, next to the hockey arena is
the Joe Dumars Fieldhouse, owned by and named after the former Detroit Pistons
player. Adjacent to the Fieldhouse is "The Hitting Zone",
an indoor baseball training camp owned by former
Detroit Tigers
player Dave Bergman.
The Michigan State Fairgrounds is also
home of two of the top charity events in the country:
The Hob Nobble Gobble

The Hob Nobble Gobble, a black-tie event that is held the
evening before the Thanksgiving Parade, is held at the Michigan State
Fairgrounds each November. Tickets for this very popular society event go
for as much as $1,000 a piece.
Cattle Baron's Ball

The Cattle Baron's Ball is also held at the
Michigan State Fairgrounds. Tickets for this exclusive event start at $200
per ticket, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
First launched in Texas in the 1970s, the
American Cancer Society's Cattle Baron's Ball has proven to be a successful
fundraising model nationwide. Funds raised from the Cattle Baron's Ball benefit
the American Cancer Society, the nation's leading voluntary health organization
dedicated to eliminating cancer through research, education, advocacy and
service. Since the inaugural debut in 2003, the Detroit Ball boasts
record-breaking success having raised nearly $4.5 million locally -- earning
recognition as one of the most distinctive charitable events in Metro Detroit.
"The American Cancer Society is extremely grateful for the leadership and
support the Cattle Baron's Ball receives each year in metro Detroit," said Jill
Elder, executive director, American Cancer Society. "We are proud of the fact
that the Cattle Baron's Ball supports cutting edge research in southeast
Michigan and across the nation, as well as free patient service programs and
prevention education." Funds raised during the event's live auction also provide
college scholarships to childhood cancer survivors throughout Michigan. To date,
more than $300,000 has been raised at the event in support of the Young
Survivors Scholarship program.
As you see, over the past few years, the Michigan State Fairgrounds has gone through a tremendous revitalization, growing into a clean, safe all-around family destination. The Detroit Equestrian Club is proud to join the Little Caesars Hockey League, Joe Dumars Fieldhouse and the others in making this one of the most unique family-oriented destinations in the country.

Did you know...
that just a few feet away from The Detroit Equestrian Club,
Seabiscuit won his first major race?
Seabiscuit,
the grandson
of the famous Man 'o War, was born in 1933 and was considered a mediocre
racehorse until September 7, 1936. On that day, before a crowd of 28,000
people at the Detroit Fairgrounds, Seabiscuit won his first major stakes
race, The Governor's Handicap. Seabiscuit and jockey, John (Red)
Pollard repeated the feat on September 26, 1936 at the Fairgrounds, winning
the Hendrie Handicap.
This incredible racehorse quickly became a national hero and in 1938, Seabiscuit was named Horse of the Year and in 1958, he was voted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame. Seabiscuit died in 1947 at the age of 14.

In 2006, a Michigan Historical Marker was
erected at the Fairgrounds next to a statue of Seabiscuit
that stands near the site where he won his first major race.
