An open letter from
Christopher Ewing,
owner of The Detroit Equestrian Club & president of
Detroit Show Jumping League:
"I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone, riders and spectators
alike, for attending the horse shows at The Detroit Equestrian Club this past winter. We began the
season with approximately 32 horses at the first horse show in December
and had nearly 120 at the April show! I can't begin to tell you what
an undertaking it was to take an old dairy barn and transform it into a
show ring, but I am glad that everyone has had a great time showing here
and now the facility is moving into Phase II. Currently, even as you
read this, brand new footing is being mixed to go into the International
Arena. The old footing will be hauled out in the next few weeks and the new footing put
in. New footing has already been placed into the 5,500-seat Coliseum, where
The DEC will now be doing its day-to-day operation.
"I would also like to say that no show would be a success without the hard
work of the entire team, so I would like to take a minute to thank
all of my staff who worked
very hard at making these shows such a success
for everyone to enjoy:
Scott Alder, Course Designer & Technical Advisor: Scott, thank you
very much for your help and guidance. Your outstanding experience as
a course designer, as well as your knowledge of horse show format, is greatly
appreciated. Many of the riders and trainers told me countless times how great they
thought the courses were.

Show Secretary: If there was any one thing that I kept
hearing from exhibitors about the show office, it was how polite the show
secretary was. You are the best, Mary. Thank you, thank you!
Kathryn Lawter & Nancy Feehan, Show Stewards : Ladies, thank you for your guidance
in keeping everything on track and running smoothly. Special thanks
to Teresa, too!
Dan McCarthy, Announcer: Mr. Mac,
you are "The Voice of the Show Ring" when it comes to horse shows in
our state. Thanks for getting all of us to the ring on time
as only you can!
And last, but certainly not
least, Derek, Shep, Mike, and Tony (aka "Big Tiny"), the Jump Crew
Guys: I don't think anyone
works harder or faster than you guys! All of you are truly the backbone to
having a good show.
Again, thank you to all of
the exhibitors who have attend the shows at The DEC this past winter. The
"team" and I look forward to seeing you again at The DEC.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Detroit
Show Jumping League differ from the MHJA and HJAM?
The purpose of the DSJL is to
award the accomplishments of exhibitors that compete on all of the individual
show jumping circuits in the state of Michigan (the "A", "B", "C" and Pony
circuits). The Michigan Hunter Jumper Association and Hunter Jumper
Association of Michigan are associations that are connected to those circuits.
If I show on one circuit
level, how will my points be calculated in terms of other circuits?
Year end championships will be awarded to the season High Point winners in each
circuit and points will be tracked, circuit by circuit. If you show on the
"A" circuit, your points will be listed with other horses and riders on the
"A"
circuit. if you show on the "B" circuit, your points will be listed with
other horses and riders on the "B" circuit, and so on. All year end
championships will be award circuit by circuit.
Do I have to be a
member of the DSJL in order to have my points count?
No, but you
do have to be a member of the circuit that you wish to have your points tracked
with, i.e. the Michigan Hunter Jumper
Association or the
Hunter Jumper Association of Michigan.
I plan on showing at
a show that is not listed on the DSJL list of shows. Will the points I
earn at those shows still count towards DSJL championships?
Only shows that are currently listed as
participating DSJL shows will count towards year end DSJL points. Any show is
welcome to become part of this list, thus, the list of DSJL shows is always
growing. If there is a show that you plan on
attending that is not listed above,
please contact the show manager of that show.
